Monthly Housing Activity Data

This latest edition of our Monthly Housing Activity Data release shows that house building activity is continuing to accelerate.

This monthly release draws together the most up-to-date data on residential planning permissions, commencements, housing guarantee registrations, ESB Connections and purchase and rental price indices.

The latest available data tells us:

  • Planning permissions for 19,246 new homes were granted in the twelve month period to end June 2017 (up 49% year on year).
  • Commencement Notices for 17,151 new homes nationwide were submitted in the twelve month period to end October 2017 (up 37% year on year).
  • Housing Guarantee registrations – an indicator of home building activity in multi-unit development schemes or estates – were registered for 9,441 homes in the twelve months to end October 2017 (up 86% year on year)
  • The level of ESB connections to the National Grid reached 18,197 homes across the country (up 26% year on year).   8,400 of these homes are in the Dublin and Mid-East regions (counties Kildare, Meath and Wicklow) which have seen a 42% increase in ESB connections year on year.
